How do Match Dinners work?
Our Singles Dining Events are held at restaurants that range from the most sought after hot spots in town to the best standard fare. All restaurants are selected for the premium quality of their food. There are a few different types of Dining Events. One type of event that we offer is our “Match Dinners”. At Match Dinners, you'll sit at a table with 4 to 8 other people who are all getting to know each other for the first time. You’ll be invited to one of these Match Dinners when your Matchmaker feels there might be someone attending that you have indicated interest in by adding them to your Hot List, or Special Interest List, or who he or she feels might be compatible with you. There will be a Host present to introduce everyone, and organize the seating. At “Large Group” Dinner Events, you’ll sit at a table of 8-10 people of similar age and interests. There are also “Special Dinners”, which feature a guest speaker or activity along with the cuisine, and “Wine Tastings”, where you’ll sample delicious wines while meeting new people. Your Matchmaker will invite you to those Dinner Events that fit your interests and which present opportunities for you to meet compatible matches.
How will I know where to sit?
When you arrive, the Host will introduce you to the group, and show you to your seat, which will be arranged alternating male/female. If a particular member that you expressed previous interest in is attending, the Host will try to sit you next to that person.
How are Match Dinner groups organized?
As you add members to your Hot List, or send “Special Interest”, your Matchmaker will be gaining information about the type of people you like. This helps your Matchmaker try to invite and then arrange for you to sit at a table with members you expressed interest in, or other members that appear to be “your type”. Other criteria Matchmakers use to arrange table seating at our Dining Events are age range, common interests, ethnicity and religious preferences, compatibility regarding feelings about children, smoking, drinking, and other factors. Our Matchmakers are very skilled at putting together table arrangements that result in lively discussions and evenings to remember.
What do people talk about at the Match Dinners?
People talk about a wide range of topics at our Match Dinners. Some people talk about their favorite movies, music, shows or books. Some talk about where they are from and places they have traveled to. The possibilities are endless. Matchmakers try to invite members who share common interests so conversation typically flows smoothly.
What can I do to maximize my chances of success with Match Dinners?
To maximize your chances of being seated with someone you are interested in, you should add as many people to your Hot List, or Special Interest List, as you can. The more people you add to your list, the more your Matchmaker will know about the type of people you like, which will make it easier for them to set up a Dinner with people that you are interested in getting to know better. Your Matchmaker will also use the information you provide about your interests, background, and personality to seat you at a table with the type of people you’ll have the best chance of being compatible with. It is also important that you indicate the best days of the week for you to go out, and the time of day that’s best. When you have more evenings available to attend, it allows your Matchmaker more flexibility in arranging for you to attend a Match Dinner with the members you want to meet.
How do I indicate which nights I am available to attend?
Once you indicate an interest in attending Match Dinners, indicate the days of the week you prefer going out and what time of day is best for you. This will let your Matchmaker know which Dinners to invite you to if he or she feels there will be people there that you will be interested in and compatible with.
What happens if I meet someone I'd like to see again at a Match Dinner?
If, after the Dinner, you want to communicate with a particular member that you met at the Dinner, you can simply “click” on the Match Dinner “Reconnect Link” and you’ll see the picture and profile of everyone that sat at your table. You can send a message directly or ask your Matchmaker to contact the other member and see if there’s mutual interest. If the member you want to get to know is also interested in you, your Matchmaker can arrange for you to speak privately without revealing your phone number, via our Tell-a-Date phone system, or he or she can arrange for you to meet in person, one-on-one, for drinks, lunch or dinner.
I'm sometimes shy about meeting new people. Will I be comfortable?
If you are feeling shy, just ended a previous relationship or marriage and are feeling a bit nervous, or haven’t dated for awhile, Match Dinners are perfect for you. A Host will be at every event to seat you, and introduce you to everyone and break the ice. There is no pressure because everyone is just there to enjoy a great meal and to let things happen naturally. When do Match Dinners or other Dining Events take place?
Dinners are held at various times and are held on both weeknights and weekends so that there are events to fit everyone’s schedule.
When should I arrive at a Match Dinner or Dinner Event?
It is best to get to the restaurant 10 to 15 minutes before the scheduled event begins so that the Host can show you to your proper seat and introduce you to everyone as they are seated at your table.
How long do Match Dinners last?
Match Dinners generally last 1 to 2 hours. After dinner, people usually return home, particularly because many of the events take place on work nights (although we have plenty of weekend events available). Our members like the fact that there is no pressure to have a long, extended evening, and that they can reconnect later online or through their Matchmakers.
How much do Match Dinners cost?
The cover charge for most Match Dinners is $50, however you can attend the first Match Dinner for $30. If you sign up for a multiple number of dinners in advance, the cost per dinner can be reduced to as low as $20. Each member pays for their own meal, and many of the restaurants that sponsor our Dinners provide our members with Dining Discount Certificates, which give you up to 60% off the cost of your meal.
| Match Dinner Cost | | First Dinner | $30 | | 5 Dinner Package | $26 a Dinner | | 10 Dinner Package | $22 a Dinner | | 12 Dinner Package | $20 a Dinner |
What should I wear?
Appropriate attire will vary according to the restaurant the event is held at, and we will let you know how to dress for the evening, prior to the dinner.
In general, "business casual" is acceptable. A good rule to follow is that you should wear anything that you feel would be appropriate for a first date.
