FAQ - Matchmaking

Things you want to know...

How does Matchmaking work?

When you enroll, you can work with a Personal Matchmaker who gets to know you through phone conversations, our certified Personality Test, our extensive “Get-To-Know-You Questionnaire”, and a number of other methods. Our Matchmakers then get to work finding you matches based on an analysis of factors such as life and family goals, interests, religious beliefs (when applicable), personality, and other key factors important in providing you a lifetime of happiness with a compatible partner. Your Matchmaker exchanges information between you and compatible matches so you can learn more about each other. When there’s mutual interest, your Matchmaker can make an introduction in a number of ways. Your Matchmaker can arrange for you to use our Tell-a-Date Phone System to talk to referred matches without revealing your phone number. Your Matchmaker can arrange for you to be seated at a dinner table at a restaurant in your area with one or more members you have indicated an interest in. In cases where there is a mutual interest between members, Matchmakers can set up one-on-one dates for matches to meet in person, privately, for drinks, lunch, or dinner. Matchmakers can also help you get responses to emails you’ve sent to members you are interested in, invite you to events and activities where you can meet the type of people you’re interested in, refer you to Dating Coaches to give you guidance on your love life, and much more.

What is the difference between online dating and Matchmaking?

With online dating, you create a profile that describes your basic characteristics, you write a paragraph or two describing who you are and what qualities you are looking for in a match, and you post a photo of yourself. Then you can browse other members on your own, send them email messages to try to get them interested in you, and respond to email messages sent to you by other members that are searching for a match. Online dating gives you the ability to browse a huge number of singles, read all about them, and then contact those members that seem appealing, from the comfort of your own home.

Personal Matchmaking is different. With this service, you are assigned a Personal Matchmaker who will call you to get to know all about you and what you are looking for in a partner. Your Matchmaker will then personally search to find you the type of person you are looking for you using a wide variety of resources. This type of personal service is highly effective but would be very expensive if you used a matchmaker besides those available through this service. As an example, the following chart shows how much some of the other leading matchmaking firms charge for their services.

Other Matchmaking Firms charge up to $15,000 to provide matchmaking services without any guarantees that they will find you someone you are interested in.

Our Matchmakers search our online and private member files to find you compatible matches, make initial contact on your behalf, exchange pictures and background information between you and those matches found for you, set up a date or private phone call when there's mutual interest between you and the match found for you – all for a fee of $10 to $50 per match, depending on how much work your Matchmaker does for you. With over 1.5 million people to browse through, your Matchmaker has many more people to choose from in the search to find your perfect match, than the few hundred people a typical Matchmaker works with.

What is the cost of these services?

Our Matchmakers will search our online and private member files to find you compatible matches, make initial contact on your behalf, exchange pictures and background information between you and those matches found for you, set up a date or private phone call when there's mutual interest between you and the match found for you - all for a fee of $10 to $50 per match, depending on how much work your Matchmaker did for you in securing that match. There is no charge if you and the match found for you do not actually go on a date or engage in a private phone conversation using the private Tell-a-Date phone system. There is no charge for future dates or contacts with the same person.

How can this service provide Matchmaking so inexpensively?

Other matchmaking firms generally have a very limited number of singles to work with when trying to set up matches. That's because only a small group of men and women can afford to pay $3,000 to $15,000 in advance to find a potential match with no guarantee of success. For another matchmaking firm to find a match, they often have to personally go out searching at singles events, supermarkets, clubs, and other places where singles congregate, which can take days and even weeks or months of work. This high cost of searching, combined with a small clientele, results in the need to charge very high fees.

Our Matchmakers, on the other hand, have the ability to access our 1.5 million online member database, as well as all our private members that don't post their information online. Our proprietary computerized criteria matching system, and personality analysis matching system, takes seconds instead of weeks to find our members compatible matches. As a result, we do not have to charge any upfront fees for our Matchmaking service. Annual members pay nothing in advance for Matchmaking. They instead only pay anywhere from $10 to $50 once they are put in actual contact with someone they have indicated an interest in getting to know. There is NO charge if you and the match found for you do not go on a date or engage in a private phone conversation using our private Tell-a-Date phone system. There is also NO charge for future dates or contacts with the same person.

How does working with a Matchmaker provide added safety?

Members working with our Matchmakers must certify that they have never been convicted of a felony; are not married; have provided truthful information in their profile and 'Get-To-Know-You Questionnaire'; and that their photo accurately shows how they currently look. They must also agree to allow us to order a Criminal Background and an Identity Check; and they must provide their home address, previous addresses, phone number, and have an in-depth phone conversation with a Matchmaker. Our feedback system, after each arranged date, also provides our Matchmakers with additional member information including the accuracy of their photos, how they handle themselves, and lots of other intangibles. Access to our Matchmaker can be denied, at our discretion, to anyone who is married or has been convicted of the following: a crime against person(s) or property; a crime of a sexual nature; more than one DUI and/or DWI conviction in the last ten years; any restraining orders against them, or felony or misdemeanor convictions. Misrepresenting marital status is a violation of Title 18, Section 1343 of the U.S. Code and provides fines up to $250,000 and a possible jail term of up to five years for every offense. Despite our best efforts to try to make sure that our members are who they say they are, there are no guarantees. Accordingly, you should always maintain your own practices of safety.

How do I start working with a Matchmaker?

Upon completing your one-year membership registration, a Matchmaker will arrange for you to take our Free Personality and Compatibility Analysis Test and complete our 'Get-To-Know-You Questionnaire'. Your Matchmaker will then schedule a 15 minute phone conversation to learn more about you and the type of person you are looking for. You must also upload a current photo so your Matchmaker has a better idea regarding what you look like. Your Matchmaker will then go to work to find you your perfect match.

Do I have to submit my photo?

We do ask all our members to submit their photos, but unlike regular online dating services, we do not post photos publicly as part of our service, unless members request it. We represent people of all shapes and sizes, and while looks aren’t the most important thing, our matchmakers use the photo to get an complete idea of who you are so they can help find you a suitable match. Even if your Matchmaker does not show your photo right away, they need it in your file to accurately present you to potential matches. In general, your photo will only be presented to potential matches after they have been presented with information about you that describes your best qualities and after you have spoken to your potential match in person. If you feel you look better in person then on your photo, your matchmaker can either recommend a better photographer or not show your photo to potential matches.

Will I see a match’s photo before meeting them?

Our Matchmaking program is designed to find you someone truly compatible, and while physical chemistry is important, it has been shown that factors like common interests and compatible goals, values, and personalities are most important in selecting a partner with whom one can find happiness. We have a unique approach that allows members to evaluate each other based on the traits that really count while still being able to see each other’s photos before meeting in person. Your Matchmaker will first send you detailed information on various potential matches based on his or her understanding of what qualities you are looking for in a partner. Then you select those you wish to speak to, and your Matchmaker will typically set up a 10-minute Tell-a-Date call where you can talk to your match on our private phone system without revealing your phone number. After the initial phone call, if you decide that you would like to speak to your match further or meet in person, we will send you your match’s photo. This policy forces everyone to base his/her initial reactions on the information that we send, not solely on a picture. However, keep in mind that your Matchmaker will have a good idea of what you are and are not physically attracted to, and will look at members’ photos him or herself to make sure to try to recommend those matches to you that meet your preferences in regards to appearance.

How will a Matchmaker help me find my perfect match?

Once your background information is complete, your Matchmaker will search through both online and private profiles and photos to hand select members for you to potentially meet. Matchmakers may even scout events and activities to look for quality singles to become members. Our Matchmakers are professionals with years of dating and/or matchmaking experience. Their job is to personally get to know you, learn what you're looking for, and then personally introduce you to potential matches that they select for you or who indicate they want to meet you. Having a 'real-life' professional to help you find your match and give you feedback is highly efficient, comfortable, and effective.

What are the requirements to work with a Personal Matchmaker?

To work with a Matchmaker there are 4 requirements:

1. You must register for an annual membership and agree to follow the service's rules, regulations, and Code of Ethics.

2. You must complete a Personality & Compatibility Analysis Test, "Get-To-Know-You Questionnaire", and photo.

3. You must have a phone interview with your Matchmaker so your Matchmaker can review the results of your Personality Test, and find out more about you and the type of person you are looking for.

4. You must demonstrate that you are serious about finding a perfect match by having arranged phone conversations or actually meeting in person matches presented to you by your Matchmaker.

Do I need to post photos online to use the Matchmaking service?

You can choose to have your photo kept private and only be used by your Matchmaker when trying to find matches to introduce to you. However, your Matchmaker will need to see your photo. If you decide to post your photos on our online system, but do not have current photos or ones that you are happy with, your Matchmaker can recommend professional photographers in your area that are experts at making members' best qualities shine. The reason we require photos from all our members, even if they are to be kept private, is that your Matchmaker needs to see what you look like to get a full idea of who you are, and to help you find your perfect match, even if you wish for them to be used privately.

What if I don't want everyone to see my profile and photo?

You can choose to have your photo kept private and only be used by your Matchmaker when trying to find matches to introduce to you. Additional information such as your Personality Test and 'Get-To-Know-You Questionnaire' will also not be made available publicly and will only be used by your Matchmaker to help find you, and present you, to the most suitable matches possible.

Can all members use the Matchmaking service?

Only members that enroll for an annual membership, and provide the other required information, are eligible to use the services of our Matchmakers. There are several reasons for this. First, we do not charge any upfront fees for our matchmaking service, and we want to be sure that the members we conduct searches for are serious about finding someone for a long-term relationship. If you were serious about becoming physically fit for the long-term, you would join a gym for a year, not a month. The same is true with dating. It will take a period of time for your Matchmaker to really understand who you are and the type of person you are looking for. Your Matchmaker must get feedback from you about introductions he or she arranges for you, as well as get your matches feedback about you. This feedback system takes time, but it allows your Matchmaker to modify the type of people presented to you as well as more accurately describe what a match can expect when meeting you.

Am I obligated to use the Matchmaking services?

You are not obligated to use the Matchmaking service. You can elect to just use the online services. However, as an annual member, you are entitled use the Matchmaking without any added upfront fee for this service. Your Matchmaker will talk to you by phone to find out all about you and what qualities you are looking for in a match and will then search to find you the type of people that match what you are looking for. You do not pay for the search. The only fees you pay for the Matchmaking portion of our service are a $10 to $50 charge when your Matchmaker actually arranges a date for you, sets up a private phone call between you and a compatible match, or sends you to a dinner event or activity where you will meet "your type" of matches. For a complete description of our price structure, please refer to our Terms and Conditions.

Is the service obligated to provide all annual members with Matchmaking services?

The Matchmaking service is not included in the basic membership fee and we are not obligated to make this service available to any member. Matchmakers will only make matches if they feel both members will benefit and if they feel you are making a sincere effort to achieve success with the program. Our philosophy is that it is often difficult to decide if you are interested in someone before meeting them in person, and that a big part of finding true love is getting exposure to as many people as possible. For this reason, a Matchmaker may stop recommending matches if a member continuously refuses to meet, or talk by phone, to recommended matches.

What is the Personality & Compatibility Analysis Test and how is it used?

Learning more about your personality and the personality traits of the person that would be right for you allows your Matchmaker to introduce you to more highly compatible matches. This highly accurate Personality & Compatibility Test, which your Matchmaker uses to help gain this knowledge, has been administered to 4.5 million people and is independently certified to meet the testing standards set by the British Psychological Society.

What is the 'Get-To-Know-You Questionnaire' and how is it used?

The 'Get To Know You Questionnaire' is where members provide additional information about their background, beliefs, preferences, and interests. This Questionnaire helps give your Matchmaker a better insight into what makes you a unique individual, which will help them find you a more suitable match.

Where does my Matchmaker find potential matches for me to meet?

Your Matchmaker will search through both online and private profiles and photos to hand select members for you to potentially meet. Matchmakers may even scout events and activities to look for quality singles to become members.

How does my Matchmaker make matches for me?

Your Matchmaker conducts extensive interviews, questionnaires, and personality tests to get an in-depth understanding of you and our other members, which will help them decide which members to recommend to each other as potential matches. Your Matchmaker will send you detailed information on various potential matches based on his or her understanding of what qualities you are looking for in a partner.

How can I speak to a match by phone without revealing my phone number?

You and your match call into a special toll free number on a scheduled date and time with a special pin code that allows you and your match to speak privately without revealing your phone numbers. A Matchmaker can be on the initial call to help make the conversation go smoothly. You can then use the system to speak one-on-one to your match, and have the calls forwarded to your home, work, cell, or other number, without your actual phone number being revealed. This system is called Tell-a-Date.

How does my Matchmaker obtain and use feedback?

After your date, you and your match will both provide feedback to your Matchmaker as to how the date went, whether you and your match will be meeting again and if not, what was wrong. Getting to know you, and the type of person you're looking for, is an ongoing learning process for your Matchmaker. Your feedback helps your Matchmaker modify future searches. At the same time, you will learn more about the type of impression you are creating with the people you are being introduced to. Despite the experience of our Matchmakers, finding you a perfect match is a process that requires a certain amount of trial and error. Once your Matchmaker gives you the feedback, we offer the services of Dating Coaches who can give you insight into how to use the feedback you receive to improve your level of dating success.

What is the difference between a Dating Coach and a Personal Matchmaker?

A Personal Matchmaker is assigned to every annual member. Matchmakers talk to members to get to know them, find out what kind of qualities they are looking for in a partner, and then use that information to find them suitable matches. Matchmakers also make sure members get responses from the people they want to contact, set members up on phone and in-person dates, and recommend the right singles events and activities. Our Matchmakers are not available for general counseling or advice on dating or relationship life issues and if they feel a member could benefit from this kind of help, one of our Dating Coaches will be recommended. Dating Coaches are experts that specialize in romantic advice, self-assessment, and self-improvement. Where your Matchmaker will find you people to go on dates with, your Dating Coach will give you guidance on how to turn those dates into successful relationships. And when your Matchmaker gives you the feedback from the members you contact or dates arranged for you, your Dating Coach can help you use the feedback you receive to improve your level of dating success.

Will I speak to the same Matchmaker every time?

There will be one primary Matchmaker responsible for your account. However, to help assure that one of our Matchmakers is always available to handle your needs, our Matchmakers work together in teams of four. All four members of the Matchmaker's team have access to all your information and history, and will be working on your behalf from time to time.

How many personal introductions will I receive from my Matchmaker?

Your Matchmaker will keep in touch with you regularly and will follow your lead regarding how many matches he or she introduces you to. The number of matches you receive will depend on your schedule, how realistic your standards are, and your willingness to give people a chance by going out on dates with them.

What happens if I don't like any matches presented to me?

Your Matchmaker has access to over 1.5 million members, with thousands more joining everyday. Your Matchmaker will be handpicking matches to present to you based on our extensive Questionnaire, our highly accurate Personality Analysis Test, and his or her personal discussions with you. Even if you are not 100% convinced whether you should meet someone your Matchmaker recommends, it's a good idea to give people a chance. Your Matchmaker chooses your matches using stringent criteria based on a great deal of experience, and you should keep in mind that people often turn out to be a better match for you than you may initially believe. In any case, if you do not like any of the matches sent to you by your Matchmaker, there are no Matchmaking fees and you can continue to search on your own using the online service. One last thing - our Matchmaking service is an extra benefit provided to annual members. If your Matchmaker feels that he or she can't help you or meet your expectations, he or she may elect to stop searching for you, and you can continue to meet members on your own by using our online service or by attending our singles events and activities.

What if I never get anyone in interested in me?

You and your Matchmaker will be working to find you compatible matches that are looking for the qualities that you possess. However, in certain cases, small changes to things like profile pictures, descriptions, etiquette, style or flirting techniques can improve your dating success rate, both on first dates and in creating successful relationships. If your Matchmaker feels you could benefit by making some of these changes, he or she will recommend a Dating Coach for you to work with.

Besides finding matches for me, what other service does the Matchmaker provide?

In addition to scouting to personally find you matches, your Matchmaker can help improve your online dating experience. If an online annual member has not responded to your initial message because they're overwhelmed by messages from other members, you can ask your Matchmaker to personally contact that member and try to get a response for you. You can also have your Matchmaker screen all members trying to contact you, to make sure you only have to read messages from members that match the qualities you indicate are important to you. When a member that has the qualities you are looking for wants to contact you, your Matchmaker can let you know by phone or email. Your Matchmaker can also arrange a phone conversation between you and other members that you meet online, through a private system where you won't have to reveal your phone number. After making the introduction, the Matchmaker will exit the line so you can talk to your match privately.

How will I know if my message to a member I am interested in is rejected or accepted?

Your Matchmaker will contact you by email or phone and let you know whether or not the member you sent a message to wants to continue the communication.

How does my Matchmaker make sure people respond to my messages?

All members who elect to use our Matchmaking service must agree to respond to messages from members who meet the basic criteria that they indicate they are looking for in a match. When you send a message to another member whose criteria you match, your Matchmaker will call or email them until they get a response for you.
